We’re often asked by beginning models for input on their basic wardrobe. The items below may not be in every woman's wardrobe, but are a good idea for models. We’ve included wardrobe, makeup, and a few things that should always be taken care of before a shoot.
Planning for your portrait session - The clothes and makeup you prepare for your Diva Experience could be different depending upon your choice of Diva Experience.

Shoes - Models seem to have a closet full of shoes and don’t remember to bring them to the shoot. Please bring the following A basic black closed toe pump, not stilettos or chunky heels. At least one pair of black or silver dressy heels. Other heels in neutral colors: white/cream, brown/tan, grey and black. After you cover the basics, then you can start adding funky prints, colors and 6" heels. An attractive pair of gym shoes that are not marked up or dirty. A pair of cute but comfortable sandals.

Tops Every Model should own a basic white and black tee, cami, tank top and tube top. Solid colors! No crazy prints, logos, or slogans unless it’s the theme of the shoot. You should learn which colors flatter your skin tone and which colors don’t. Never wear pink, it washes out the skin of 99% of people. Primary colors work on most people. Bold, rich colors in earth and jewel tones are almost always flattering. Pale models should avoid most pastels and bright colors. Tan and dark skinned models look great in bright and bold colors.

Bottoms At least one pair of neutral colored slacks. Dark and light jeans. Jeans should be a fit well, not sag in the rear, be the appropriate length, form fitting, but not be too tight. Not too new or too old, bring a couple of pair. Skirts should be basic black or grey. Have a couple that flatter your figure. Mini skirt and a knee length pencil skirt. If you don't have the basics then don't add the frilly stuff until you do.

Dresses/Suits A little black dress, maybe even two! Something that can be dressed up or dressed down. A nice fashionable suit, a pant suit is usually preferred over a skirt suit.

Under garments, generally photographers really, really, really prefer you NOT wear undergarments to a shoot. We spend far too much time in photoshop after the shoot retouching straps, lines and bulges! We’ll make sure you always look appropriate.

If you absolutely must… please make sure undergarments are a solid color, match your exterior clothes and bring at least one strapless bra in each color. Multi strapped bras prevent you from buying 6 different bras. Top and bottom garments should always match. Thongs with form fitting slacks. Also consider sheer nylons in black and nude, opaque stockings in black and colors can be a great addition to an outfit as well.
Socks- make sure to have basic socks in the appropriate size.

Lingerie models, will, of course, select more elaborate and attractive complete sets.

Accessories - It's always nice if a model owns a few hats, scarves, sunglasses etc.

Jewelry Jewelry, bring it Don’t wear it. Removing unwanted jewelry is another of the issues we spend time in Photoshop correcting. Don’t wear any jewelry unless requested for a specific set

Makeup – mineral make-up, please
Even experienced models have to do their own makeup from time to time.  If we’re providing Hair & Make-up please come with NO make-up and hair washed the day BEFORE, not the day of the shoot.  When applying makeup the rule is Blend, Blend and Blend! There should be no lines where a product ends.  Don't arrive with last nights makeup on, especially if you will have a makeup artist. Avoid trying anything new on your skin that may give you an allergic reaction.

Avoid sun bathing and tanning right before a shoot. Tan lines are horrible and sunburns are even worse. Avoid self tanner, no one wants to shoot an orange model. Models have a tendency to use too much bronzer!  Be careful with your application, especially if you are on the pale side.

Foundation – A good foundation is… well, the foundation of your make-up. Use the best product you can find and learn how to use it correctly. Use foundation for shoots even if you have perfect skin because light WILL reflect the oils in your skin.

Mascara - black or brown depending upon your skin tones.

eyeliner - black and brown, and a bit heaver than you use for “Day Wear”

Setting Powder –

Neutral loose power

lip-gloss - clear, a pink, red or berry that is flattering to your skin tone and a nude color.

blush - apricot/peach is flattering on almost everyone

Eye shadows – Are you shooting for “Day Look”, “Evening Look”, or a “Dramatic Look”? Learn how to create great smokey eyes. Always use eye shadows that are silky and easy to blend.

Hair Goods - Curling iron, hair straightener, blow dryer Bobby pins, hair clips, a good variety of hair accessories. Styling products that are appropriate for your hair type

Hair - If you color your hair make sure your growing are not showing, have then touched up before a shoot. Eyebrows - Should be well groomed before you arrive at a shoot. Nails - Should be trimmed and even. It doesn't matter if they are short or long. You should not have nail polish on except for a clear coat, unless instructed otherwise.

Lastly, drink plenty of water and eat something before a shoot. You will need your energy; no one wants a fainting/dehydrated model.
